Success after Stroke, began in the year 2000. It became a registered Charity in 2006 and moved to larger premises at The Stevenson Centre, Great Cornard, Suffolk. We are affiliated to The Stroke Association and have been recognised by them on two occasions for the work we do in the community. In 2014 we were given an award by Babergh District Council for our continued support of stroke survivors.
Success After Stroke continues to go from strength to strength, providing help and support for our members.
What We Offer
Our team of professionally qualified therapists provide individual and group therapy sessions to support you in your recovery. Running alongside our therapists is a group of dedicated and experienced volunteers who assist the professional team, as well as facilitating the social side of Success After Stroke.
Our physiotherapists work with individuals and groups using specialist equipment to support co-ordination and balance whilst working affected limbs to encourage strength and mobility. (Therapies).
Speech and Language Therapy
The speech and language therapists run group speech and language sessions for different needs to encourage confidence and build communication skills. The team can refer to the NHS for one-to-one support when necessary. (Therapies).
Mental Well-being Therapy
Our trained and experienced well-being therapist works with both members and carers on a one-to-one basis, using a variety of techniques, to improve mental well-being. She also co-runs the Success After Stroke Carers’ Group. (Therapies).
We offer an extensive programme of activities during the week, some of which are at other locations. These include art and pottery. We also have a computer expert who runs a very popular mind games and brain-training group. (Activities).
Throughout the year, we have visiting speakers and arrange outings. Trips are planned with our members’ limited mobility in mind and have included visits to the theatre, national gardens, stately homes and the seaside amongst many other places.
Success After Stroke aims to provide a friendly, caring and professional service to our members.
